Judge White to Hold Criminal Hearings in Oakland beginning June 2013

On Friday, June 7, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. and every first Friday of the month thereafter, Judge Jeffrey S. White will appear in Oakland to hold law and motion hearings for Oakland-venued criminal cases.  While motion hearings will occur in Oakland, all pretrial conferences, trials and evidentiary hearings will continue to be heard in San Francisco.   Note that during the months that Judge White serves as General Duty Judge in San Francisco, he will hold no calendars in Oakland.

Until June 7, 2013, in-court appearances for Judge White's Oakland criminal cases will take place in San Francisco during his regular criminal law and motion calendar on Thursdays at 2:00 p.m. in Courtroom 11 on the 19th Floor. However, all proceedings prior to the initial appearance (e.g., arraignments, attorney appointment proceedings, detention hearings) in cases assigned to Judge White shall be conducted by the Criminal Duty Magistrate Judge in Oakland, as with any Oakland-venued criminal case.

Manually filed documents in Judge White's Oakland criminal cases must be filed in the Oakland Clerk's Office, and chambers copies should be submitted to Judge White's San Francisco chambers in accordance with his standing orders. When a party is seeking to file a document under seal, they must follow the procedures required by Criminal Local Rule 55-1(b). All under seal documents should be lodged with the Oakland Clerk's Office. However, the parties shall submit a chambers copy of the under seal documents directly to Judge White's San Francisco chambers in accordance with his standing orders.

Judge White will no longer be assigned new San Francisco-venued criminal cases.
