After more than 29 years of service on the court, including 9 years as a magistrate judge, 14 years as an active district judge, and 6 years as Chief Judge, Chief District Judge Phyllis J. Hamilton will take senior status effective February 1, 2021. Judge Hamilton will continue to support the Northern District of California and to carry a caseload as a Senior District Judge.
Chief Judge Hamilton will be succeeded by District Judge Richard Seeborg, who will become Chief Judge effective February 1, 2021.
